FAQs

I got a cheaper quote. Can you match it?

We do our best to offer competitive pricing while maintaining quality craftsmanship. If you receive a cheaper quote, we’ll work with you to reduce costs where possible. However, we may not always be able to match lower quotes, especially if it means compromising on material quality, workmanship, or the long-term durability of your project.

How long will my project take?

Project timelines vary based on size, complexity, and material availability. Smaller jobs like standard fencing may take a few days, while larger or more customised projects can take weeks. We’ll provide a clear timeframe during your quote and keep you updated throughout the process.

Why should I hire a carpenter to install my fence?

Hiring a carpenter for your fence installation ensures quality craftsmanship, durability, and attention to detail. Unlike general fencing contractors or handymen, carpenters undergo years of training to master woodworking techniques, customisation, and structural integrity. This expertise results in a well-built fence that not only looks great but stands the test of time.

Do you install PVC/vinyl fencing?

At Cooper Carpentry & Fencing, our motto is Built to Last. That’s why we avoid PVC fencing, which lacks long-term durability and environmental sustainability. Unlike timber, which offers strength, sustainability, and easy repair, PVC can crack, yellow, and require frequent upkeep. We recommend timber or steel (e.g. Colorbond) for fences that are not only durable but also eco-friendly, enhancing the beauty and longevity of your property for years to come.

What general carpentry services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of carpentry services including skirtings, architraves, door installation, wall panelling, cladding, screening, staircases, balustrades, pergolas, patios, and more. If you have a specific carpentry project in mind that’s not listed, feel free to contact us. We’re happy to work with you on custom designs and unique requests to meet your needs.

Who’s responsible for the costs of boundary fencing and retaining?

In NSW, the Dividing Fences Act 1991 requires neighbours to equally share costs for constructing, repairing, or maintaining a “sufficient dividing fence.” If one neighbour wants a premium upgrade, they cover the extra costs. If a retaining wall supports the fence, costs are shared, but if it’s for land retention, the benefiting property owner pays.

Disputes can be resolved through open communication or the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT). It’s a good idea to put agreements in writing. At Cooper Carpentry & Fencing, we help homeowners navigate these issues with ease.
